About the town
Englewood Cliffs sits atop the Hudson Palisades, the dramatic escarpment overlooking the Hudson River, the George Washington Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline. Despite its compact size, the borough has been a nationally significant corporate address for decades.

Our history
1895
Englewood Cliffs incorporated on May 10, 1895, seceding from Englewood Township during the "Boroughitis" wave that swept Bergen County. William Outis Allison served as the first mayor.
20th century
For decades the Sylvan Avenue address of textbook publisher Prentice Hall appeared on the spine of countless American books, while Unilever built a long-running corporate campus on the same corridor.
2003–2018
CNBC moved its world headquarters and studios to 900 Sylvan Avenue in 2003, and LG Electronics USA opened a new North American headquarters at 111 Sylvan Avenue in 2018.
Signature landmark
Englewood Cliffs sits directly atop the Hudson Palisades, the sheer cliffs rising above the river across from Manhattan. The borough borders Palisades Interstate Park, where the scenic Henry Hudson Drive offers sweeping views of the river, the George Washington Bridge, and the New York City skyline.
Community & culture
Sylvan Avenue has hosted the world or North American headquarters of major names including CNBC and LG Electronics USA, with Unilever and publisher Prentice Hall long operating there as well.
Beyond its office corridor, Englewood Cliffs remains a small, low-density residential borough of roughly 5,300 residents, prized for its Palisades views and proximity to Manhattan.
Residents and visitors reach Palisades Interstate Park's trails and scenic drives directly from the borough, connecting the community to one of the region's most iconic natural landmarks.
